Our aim at Plymouth Clinical Hypnotherapy is to help the entire family unit as individuals and as a whole. This is how we can help:

The PTSD sufferer

A combination of EMDR and hypnotherapy would be used to desensitise the triggers and emotions around the event that brought the condition on. EMDR has been accepted by Psychiatrists and authorities on PTSD alike as one of the most effective therapies available. Hypnotherapy can help the sufferer with reducing stress, anxiety, agoraphobia, hyper-vigilance, improving confidence and supporting growth as well as others.

The PTSD sufferer’s partner

Nothing can prepare you for the devastation that PTSD reaps on your family. Your once strong, independent, rational partner who was your equal has changed, has become vulnerable, perhaps aggressive, unable to make clear decisions, is short tempered and withdrawn – your world may feel as if it has been tipped upside-down. Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool which can give you strength, clarity, reduce your stress and empower you to support the family unit.

Children/adolescents in the PTSD home

PTSD affects the PTSD sufferers children which is often unnoticed by the sufferer and his/her partner. The reason for this is that the adults in the home have been thrown into a situation they never could have predicted and as a result they are focused on trying to sort themselves out. Children are sensitive to changes in stress levels, they pick up on disharmony  and they themselves can start to suffer from stress, anxiety, bed wetting and so on. As mentioned in the children’s issue of this site you will see that children react well to hypnotherapy and it can turn their lives around.

Carers of PTSD sufferers

Many PTSD sufferers do not have partners or children. In cases like these it often falls on other family members to step in and support them. More often than not it is the parents of PTSD sufferers who fulfil this role. Just like the partners of PTSD sufferers when parents are caring for their child their world may feel as if it has been tipped upside-down. If you are in this position hypnotherapy is a fantastic tool which can give you strength, clarity, reduce stress levels and empower you to support that family member whilst they adapt to life with PTSD.

PTSD

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects not only the sufferer but also the whole family unit. The sufferer is thrown into a bewildered, frightening haze whilst their partner struggles to cope with the altered behaviour and personality of their loved one. Children and adolescents are affected by the heightened stress levels in the family home and the insecurity that this brings.
